Research

For observation | UMC Utrecht

UMC Utrecht was renovating the indoor public spaces of this academic hospital. They wanted to involve their employees and patients in this spatial transformation.

I set up a reserach project that would draw a parallel between the patient and the hospital building that was under renovation: both are under surgery, disfunctional, wounded and fragile, but also recovering. And both seemed to be tending to hide their wounds and diseases from the public.

I observed and documented the temporary states the building would find itself in and found beauty in it. The photo’s were shared on the intern website to invite employees to share their stories about the rooms. A selection of the photo’s was added to the art collection of UMC Utrecht.
