The year 2016 would be the last year in which this land was used for the cultivation of barley. After the harvest, the construction of a new housing estate would start immediately. The urban planner had devised a history for this news housing district to give it an identity as a historic village. According to this fictional history, there would have been a high square tower in this ‘village’, which was never finished.
In places where the remains of buildings are covered with grass, that grass does not grow as well and you can sometimes see the foundations. This notion led to this installation, which could be viewed from above a hill and was also accessible. By leaving the barley and letting the project developers walk through it, the project responded critically to the application of a fictional identity to a place that had long had its own identity as one of the oldest ‘es’-grounds in this area.
