Social intervention in a residential area in Tegelen, Limburg</b
In collaboration with Circular Art Lab Limburg (CALL)

CALL was a socially engaged art project initiated by Museum Van Bommel Van Dam, in which artists and thinkers were invited to propose interventions in economically deprived urban neighbourhoods. My project took place in Tegelen, where one neigbourhood was increasingly getting abandoned. Many houses were left empty and people felt ashamed to tell others that they lived here. Inhabitants complained a lot about the public space.

To activate their creativity, I created a simple model of the neighbourhood in which no house was fixed. In a workshop I invited inhabitants to remove every house they wanted and to explore alternative scenarios for the public space. From complaining, they shifted to ideas. The workshop concluded with a collectively supported proposal to transform a specific vacant lot into a park that would be created and cared for by these inhabitants as a public meeting space.
