Ready to lose control.

2013

At first sight, the building where I made this installation resembles a traditional Veluwe farm, and that was precisely the intention when the Germans built the Seven Provinces in the Second World War: bunkers at the military air base Deelen, in which Luftwaffe personnel was housed. After the war, the Dutch army used it until the end of the Cold War. After that, the bunker farms were empty.

To prevent squatting, all windows were closed with wooden plates. When I started making an installation here 25 years later, I opened the windows again and re-activated them with black tree trunks, which ran from the outside in. For the first time light, wind and rain entered the rooms again.
