Narrative Perspectives

2020-2021

Narrative Perspectives is a site-specific and interactive installation that re-activates a forgotten road in a forest. The installation transforms the site into a place for contemplation and observation, as it invites the public for a scenographic walk. The road, an ancient, silent beech avenue, finds itself stuck in an economic- ecological conflict, as it is situated between a highroad and a protected nature site. This conflict produces unplanned situations that can be observed from the objects.

The objects in this installation each facilitate a personal encounter with this site from different perspectives. They are five one-person observation posts that invite the body to take up a specific pose. The visitor may lay down and watch the space from upside down, listen to the silence and the noise and walk slowly alongside the rythms of the trees. Altogether, the installation cultivates silence and slowness on this site, which is surrounded by traffic noise and speed.
